Background

  • The Australian Fresh Produce Alliance (AFPA) is made up of Australia's major fresh produce growers and suppliers. AFPA members represent:
  • Half the turnover of the Australian fresh produce (fruit and vegetables) industry - $4.5 billion of the $9.1 billion total.
  • More than a third of Australian fresh produce exports - $410 million of the $1.2 billion total.
  • More than 20,000 direct employees.
  • Grower supplier network of more than 1,000 growers
The key issues AFPA is focusing on include:
  • Market access to key export markets for Australian produce
  • Labour and the need for both a permanent and temporary supply of workers
  • Environmental sustainability including packaging and the role it plays in product shelf life and reducing food waste
  • Product integrity both within and outside the supply chain
  • Pollination and research into alternative pollination sources
  • Water security including the efficient and productive management of water

AFPA Competition Law Compliance Statement - Version 1 | April 2026

  • The primary purpose of the AFPA is to serve as the leading voice of the Australian fresh produce sector, domestically and internationally, and to support the sector to be economically, environmentally, and socially sustainable, meeting the needs of Australian and international consumers.

  • Members wish to make it clear that the sole purpose of its meetings is to discuss matters relevant to achieving the purpose just expressed. Members do not share commercially sensitive information or enter into any discussions, arrangements or any other conduct during these meetings which might be viewed as anti-competitive or otherwise contrary to respective legal obligations.

  • In particular, among other things members will not discuss during AFPA meetings:
  • - matters relating to the price of any of our respective products;
  • - acting collectively in relation to any purchase or supply arrangements;
  • - allocating markets, customers, territories or suppliers between or among members;
  • - the terms of any of our respective supply arrangements with any of our customers;
  • - the terms of any of our respective purchasing arrangements with any of our suppliers; or
  • - the coordination of bids or tenders for any contract.

  • If at any point a participant believes a discussion may be moving into prohibited territory, they can raise this immediately and participants, guided by the Chair, will review and take appropriate corrective action on the matter.

Our People

Veronica Papacosta

Chief Executive Officer
Veronica Papacosta is the Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Fresh Produce Alliance and a respected leader across Australia’s food and agriculture sectors. Previously, she served as CEO and inaugural Chair of Seafood Industry Australia, where she helped establish the organisation as the national voice for the seafood industry and led major initiatives in sustainability, safety and industry collaboration. A third-generation seafood retailer, Veronica brings deep supply chain experience from production to retail. She is a strong advocate for sustainable food systems and effective industry–government engagement, and is committed to strengthening Australia’s fresh produce sector.

Cameron Brown

Head of Policy & Corporate Affairs
Cameron Brown is the Head of Policy & Corporate Affairs at AFPA. Cameron supports the AFPA to develop and deliver its priorities and policy agenda. Prior to joining AFPA, Cameron spent several years working in government, both within departments and ministerial offices, most recently for the Premier of Queensland. Having worked across several portfolios, including agriculture, transport, construction, health and more, Cameron brings a broad knowledge base and skill set to AFPA.
